Do You Play with Video Games

Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house

Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse;

The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,

In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there;

The children were nestled all snug in their beds….

Well…that’s where the line was drawn. We weren’t snug in our beds. Every year, on Christmas Eve, it never failed that we would hear a faint noise from the living room. Dad tried turning the TV low, he closed the pocket door between our steps and the living room, but with a slow and steady slide, we peeped in the living room, and there he was, in his oversized lounger, playing the video game.

I have six siblings, and so every year, it was guaranteed that we would get a gaming console that we could all play on or take turns with, but not before Dad. He would gently open up the gaming console and games, making sure not to ruin the packaging, and he would play. He would sit there for a few hours and test out the games that he bought for us. He was having such a good time. And when he was done, the game would go back into its original packaging and get sealed in some excellent wrapping paper. He tested all the games, but we couldn’t stand there at the pocket door too long. One, because we didn’t want to get caught, but two, because we were tired; Dad would always start wrapping the gifts after 1 am, assuming we were sound asleep.

I think he enjoyed this opportunity to be a kid again and to be there to teach us how to conquer the level in the game because he was up all night himself doing it.

Do you play video games?
